The New Rules of Osteopathy

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

Remote coaching at Bloom Barrie offers osteopathy for babies in the comfort of your own home.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare moved online as a way to continue care while we were all stuck at home.

Since then, remote osteopathy has exploded in popularity. There has been a huge demand for these services in my practice from people looking to take better care of themselves from the comfort and safety of home. When it comes to client experiences, telehealth research is overwhelmingly positive. If you've been considering trying osteopathy, here are 4 reasons to take the plunge with an online session:

1. Osteopathy at Your Fingertips

“I wish you were closer” is a comment I don’t hear that much from potential clients anymore because remote coaching give us the opportunity to connect no matter where you live. In a typical work day at my Barrie clinic, I may go straight from a session for a baby with reflux in Hamilton to helping someone in Kingston with lower back pain. It's so much fun jumping from city to city all day long without even leaving my office.

2. Bonus Time

It's a lot easier to fit remote consultations into your busy schedule because you don't have to worry about arranging childcare. Not having to travel to your appointment frees up more in your day. That equals more time checking things off your to-do list or a few extra minutes to put your feet up and relax!

3. Treat Yo’ Self

After running telehealth clinics for a few months, I noticed that my clients had started referring to them as 'coaching sessions'. Since manual therapy isn't possible online, I called on my background in personal training to lead clients through the assessment we would do in our face-to-face appointments. I would then use what they found to guide them through our rehabilitation plans and teach rehabilitation exercises. These appointments quickly evolved and remote osteopathy coaching was born! My clients really love this approach because they get a better sense of what's happening in their bodies and they have a clear path that they're in charge of for recovery.

3. No Masks, No Problem

Hands down, my favourite thing about online coaching is not having to worry about my glasses getting fogged up. I’m all about masking up, but they should really come with lens wipers for those of us lacking 20/20 vision. So when we meet for your next remote appointment, leave your mask hanging on the rear view mirror and share your smile in all it’s shining glory!

It's no surprise how much the pandemic has fast-tracked advancements in the quality of osteopathic care across the board. There are so many perks with telehealth that it's hard to imagine it going away any time soon. If you want to feel empowered with tailored tools and advice that you can do at home, then it's time to level up your self-care game with a remote coaching session.
